Q: When did you start blogging, and what was your inspiration?
A: I started blogging in 2004 as a freshman at the University of Kentucky. I was getting into a lot of smaller bands, and the only place to find info about them were music blogs. After reading them for a few months I decided to start one of my own
Q: How did you decide on the name “You Ain’t No Picasso,” and have you ever wished you had chosen a different name?
A: It’s the name of a demo by the band Bishop Allen. Aside from it being a little long, I’m happy with it.
Q: Did you experience any unexpected joys or pains when you started blogging?
A: I discovered it was a ton of fun.
Q: What makes You Ain’t No Picasso unique versus other blogs with similar content?
A: I’d imagine that it’s as different from other blogs as I am from their writers. I try to bring my my personality and preferences into it as often as I can.
Q: Do your family members read You Ain’t No Picasso? What are their reactions?
A: Not really. I like to joke that the closer you are to me the less you read my blog. My girlfriend only reads it occasionally.
Q: How much time daily do you spend blogging?
A: It’s hard to put a number on it, because any time I spend browsing the internet I’m at least partially looking for things to write about — and I’m on the internet a lot. I guess I spend three hours a day writing emails, blogging and other things directly related to the site.
Q: How many times have you redesigned your blog since it started?
A: I think twice. It was originally this black and grey template before I changed the layout. Then in about 2008 I designed the green and yellow look it has now. I’m currently working on a new redesign as well.
Q: What is something your readers do not know about you?
A: I only listened to 60s pop/R&B until I was about 17. It wasn’t until I was a Junior in high school that I got interested in more modern stuff.
Q: What is your personal favorite blog post?
A: I love collecting covers by my favorite bands. I have every cover that My Morning Jacket, Of Montreal and a few other bands have done (at least the ones that were recorded). That’s something that I would have LOVED to run across years ago and now I’m the one who gets to.
Q: You have some big followers on Twitter. What does Tweeting add to your blogging experience?
A: It strengthens my relationship with them and allows me to get immediate feedback.
